Fantastic Response for Great Northern Running Event On Sunday 5th March 2017

The fourth annual Great Northern running event in Mickleover on Sunday 5th March has already sold out of places for the 10k and half marathon distances.  There are plenty of spaces left for the 2k family fun run and people can still sign up online or enter on the day.

The GNR event has been organised again by Mickleover Cricket Club and Derby-based HUUB Events. It is named after and takes part along part of the disused Great Northern railway line in Mickleover.

Claire Duffin, Race Director at HUUB Events, said: “The response to the Great Northern has been incredible with all 400 places filled by the end of January.

“We have spaces left in the 2k fun run and families can either register for the 2k beforehand or turn up on the day if they wish.”

The route for the 2k is confined to the disused railway line – making it ideal for families with younger children. The half marathon and 10k also takes in the quiet country lanes between Mickleover and Hilton before returning back to the finish line opposite the Great Northern pub.

The 10k and half marathon are UKA licensed races and are chip timed with prizes awarded to the first three male and female competitors across the line as well as top veterans in each age group (Male V40, 50, 60 and Female V35, 45 and 55).

All finishers of the 10k and half marathon will receive a T-shirt and medal and everyone taking part in the 2k will receive a medal to mark their achievements.

Race HQ is based at Mickleover Sports Club, the home of Mickleover Cricket Club, where there will be free car parking, toilets, changing facilities and refreshments.

Mickleover Cricket Club committee member Stuart Walker concluded:  “The Great Northern grows every year and we are looking forward to welcoming a record number of runners this year across the three distances.

“There is always a great atmosphere at this event and we all gather back at the clubhouse for a warm drink and something to eat before heading home to enjoy the rest of the weekend.”
