Geldards Support Sportive Events

Geldards has re-pledged its support for Derby’s two major cycling sportive events this year.

Pride Park-based law firm Geldards will work with organisers Cycle Derby and HUUB Events to stage the Team Challenge events – which are popular elements of the Spring Classic Sportive on Sunday April 23 and the North Derbyshire Challenge on Sunday September 17.

The Spring Classic will start and finish at Markeaton Park. Riders will take on one of three routes – 40km, 80km or 160km around Derbyshire and East Staffordshire. In addition, a King/Queen of the Mountain challenge will be included for the first time with a special prize for those wishing to take part.

The Team Challenge is an opportunity for groups of up to ten cyclists to work together in a bid to travel the greatest distance. The team with the greatest total distance or the fastest KoM/QoM in case of a tie, will take home the coveted Geldards’ Team Challenge title. Geldards will also host a hospitality area at Markeaton Park with exclusive access for Team Challenge riders throughout the day.

David Williams, Chairman at Geldards, said: “Cycling is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and Geldards is proud to be supporting an event that will build upon Derby’s ambition to become a cycling city. “As a proactive member of the Derby business community and a keen cyclist myself, I hope that teams of friends and colleagues will take up the challenge to get on their bikes and crank up some miles.” Mark Smith from Cycle Derby said: “The Spring Classic Sportive is set to be the biggest ever cycling event in Derby and we are delighted that Geldards have once again come on board to help us stage the events this year.

“The Spring Classic Sportive has something for everyone with three different distance routes. As well as seasoned cyclists, we are attracting a lot of people and young families who are new to the sport which meets our objective of getting more people active”.

Claire Duffin is Race Director for HUUB Events. She continued: “The response in the past couple of months since we opened entries for the Sportive shows that Derby is well and truly a cycling city. “Entries are also coming in from cyclists from further afield which is great news for the city as they come here with their family and friends for an enjoyable day out.”
