The first of a new series of articles giving you an insight into what happens behind our triathlon brand. We want to start with a blog about our first international sales meeting where HUUB’s distributors and friends joined us from around the globe for a packed couple of days in the heart of Derby.
The main event took place on Wednesday 4th July, but our guests started to arrive on Monday and Tuesday, and it was great to catch-up face-to-face and talk all things triathlon with people that we only usually get the chance to speak to over email or phone.
Tuesday evening we went to Seven Restaurant and Cafe Bar to watch England play Colombia in the World Cup, which resulted in England winning on penalties. Everyone was donning their HUUB Russia 2018 England World Cup t-shirts of course and Seven put on some great food.
The big day was Wednesday and everyone headed to Derby County's Pride Park stadium where each of our companions were greeted with a personalised welcome message on the big screens.
HUUB’s founder and owner Dean Jackson (Deano) gave an emotional welcome speech. It really is amazing for everyone to see how the brand has grown from Deano’s garage start-up in 2011 to another level, a phenomenal success within the triathlon market now present in over 20 countries.
To get all the emotional bit’s out the way, Deano then went on to present some awards to those people that have stood by us from the beginning, having faith in and supporting the brand from day one.
HUUB’s FD followed with an update on company performance (all good), and an interesting discussion and exchange rates and Brexit and how that affects the business now and moving forward.
Next up was the bit everyone was looking forward to… What’s new? We can’t divulge too much on product and our 2019 range just yet, but let’s just say it is extremely exciting and everyone has gone away from that buzzing about the impressive developments and leap forward the brand is making in terms of product.
It wasn’t all about our product developments; we were joined by Professor Huub Toussaint who talked about the M.A.D System, which coupled with his hydrodynamics knowledge gives us the ability to test products far beyond any other triathlon or swimwear company.
At halftime all the HUUB crew were invited to take a tour of Pride Park Stadium, where they got to make the journey from Derby County’s home changing room, down the tunnel and also got the opportunity to sit in the dug-out area.
Other speakers were Aerodynamicist and Cyclist Dan Bigham (10x British Champ) who presented “The Future’s Aero”, and Gary Roethenbaugh from Multisport Research talked about the “State of triathlon”. In addition to all that, Olympian Helen Jenkins (and a great friend) joined us for a captivating Q&A session with Deano.
If you have been paying close attention, you may have seen that we have been working with aerodynamics expert Dan Bigham at the Derby Arena velodrome to apply the same rigour that we undertake for research into wetsuits into our new tri-suits and cycling range.
The day was finished off at our favourite Indian restaurant Anoki, where we were looked after like royalty with a feast fit for a king. As one of HUUB’s regular hangouts, this restaurant has served most of HUUB’s elite athletes at some point over the years.
On Thursday and Friday, HUUB’s central Derby premises were bustling with our global sales meeting visitors for one-to-one meetings, order placing and product training. By the weekend, it was safe to say team HUUB were ready for a well-earned rest! Thank you to everyone that attended and see you next year!
