Shortly after becoming the first major British sports star to come out as HIV positive, former rugby player Gareth Thomas also became an ironman.
He finished the Ironman Wales swim in just under an hour and a half, and he was seen in tears hugging husband Stephen after the bike leg. The emotional challenge was completed with the support of the crowds in Tenby, who cheered him around the course in 12 hours and 18 minutes.
